A 44-year-old man was arrested in Thermi, Thessaloniki, following a serious domestic violence incident targeting his elderly parents, according to a police announcement.
The man allegedly visited the home of his parents, a 73-year-old father and a 67-year-old mother, where he threatened them and physically assaulted his father.
During the incident, the suspect reportedly retrieved a hunting rifle from a storage area outside the residence and attempted to force his way inside. Officers from the Thessaloniki Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit responded immediately after the 73-year-old activated the Panic Button app, and they subdued the suspect on the spot.
The police investigation revealed that the day before, the arrested man had again threatened his parents, caused damage inside the home and to three parked vehicles, and set fire to a nearby storage space, resulting in significant property damage.
Small quantities of narcotics were found in his possession, along with a metal grinder with cannabis residue and a metal smoking pipe. In addition, a total of 25 hunting cartridges were seized, four of which were loaded in the rifle and the rest found in his vehicle. It was also determined that he was in illegal possession of the rifle, as its license had expired and had not been renewed.
Criminal charges were filed against him for violations of domestic violence, weapons, and narcotics legislation, as well as for arson and destruction of property.
