Athens and Piraeus are preparing for October 28 national holiday parades, with major streets closing for the events. The traffic restrictions, implemented by Greek police (ELAS), will affect both vehicle and public transport routes, including metro and tram services.
Road Closures in Athens
From 09:00 until the end of the parade, several central streets in Athens will be closed:
- Vasilissis Amalias Avenue and its perpendicular streets up to the first parallel street.
- Eleftheriou Venizelou (Panepistimiou) and surrounding perpendicular streets.
- Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, between Vasilissis Konstantinou and Eleftheriou Venizelou, both directions.
- Syggrou Avenue, from Athanasiou Diakou to Dionysiou Areopagitou.
- Athanasiou Diakou Street and adjacent perpendicular streets.
Additionally, streets around the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens will be closed from 06:00 until the end of the official ceremony (Doxologia).
Road Closures in Piraeus
In Piraeus, roads will be closed from 09:00 to 14:00, including:
- 34th Infantry Regiment Street, between Omiridou Skylitsi and Eleftheriou Venizelou.
- Iroon Polytechneiou Street, between Eleftheriou Venizelou and 2nd Merarchias.
- Vasilis Georgiou Street, between Ethnikis Antistaseos and Grigoriou Lambraki.
Metro and Tram Adjustments
Public transport will also be affected:
- Syntagma Metro Station will close at 08:00; trains will pass through without stopping.
- Tram Line 6 (Pikrodafni–Syntagma) will temporarily terminate at FIX station from 08:00.
- Tram Line 7 (Asklipieio Voulas–Agia Triada Piraeus) will temporarily terminate at SEF station from 09:00.
Temporary modifications will also apply to bus and trolley lines across the Athens metropolitan area, following police instructions. Traffic and public transport are expected to return to normal once the parades conclude.
