Athens Traffic at a Standstill on Friday Afternoon

Gridlock hit the Kifissos highway from Rentis all the way to Kifissia, while central Athens arteries were nearly at a complete standstill

Drivers across the Attica basin faced severe delays on Friday afternoon, with conditions deteriorating across multiple key routes.

The Kifissos Avenue, as shown in footage from the Orange Press Agency, was deep in the red from Rentis all the way up to Kifissia, with vehicle speeds extremely low, particularly in the northbound lanes toward Lamia.

The problems, however, extended well beyond the Kifissos. Heavy traffic and significant delays were also reported on Kifissias Avenue near Marousi and Chalandri, as well as along large stretches of Vouliagmenis Avenue on the southbound side toward Glyfada.

At the same time, central Athens was experiencing near-total gridlock. Major arteries including Vasilissis Sofias, Solonos, Stadiou, Alexandras Avenue, and the southbound lanes of Syggrou Avenue were essentially blocked.
