The bodies of seven PAOK football supporters who died in a devastating road accident in Romania are being returned to Greece on Thursday aboard a Greek Air Force aircraft.
The aircraft is scheduled to land in Thessaloniki, where relatives, friends, and fellow supporters are expected to pay tribute to the victims. Supporters’ groups have announced plans to honor the deceased upon their arrival, describing them as “brothers” whose loss has left the community shattered.
Condition of the Injured
Three people survived the crash. One of the injured is being transferred to Thessaloniki by a special medical flight for further treatment. A second survivor has been discharged from hospital and is returning to Greece, while the third remains hospitalized in Romania after doctors identified complications requiring immediate surgery.
Greece’s health authorities confirmed they are in constant contact with Romanian doctors and are prepared to transfer the remaining patient once his condition allows.
Communities in Mourning
The victims came from several towns in northern Greece, all now deeply affected by the tragedy. In some areas, local supporters’ clubs have closed as a sign of mourning, while friends and relatives gather to leave candles and flowers.
Three of the victims, described as inseparable friends, died together in the crash. Others had traveled from abroad or joined the trip at the last moment, a detail that has added to the sense of tragic irony surrounding the journey. What was meant to be a football trip to France ended instead in loss.
Remembering the Victims
The seven men—Christos, Vachos, Vasilis, Thanasis, Dimitris, Kostas, and Giorgos—are remembered by those who knew them as devoted friends and passionate supporters. Some had families and young children, others worked abroad and returned to Greece mainly to attend matches and see loved ones.
