A floating snack bar captain has been arrested after operating without the necessary authorization off the Greek island of Koufonisia, according to the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Authorities said the vessel, a barge converted into a floating refreshment stand, anchored off Italida Beach on the evening of Saturday, July 11, without obtaining the required permit.
Following reports of the vessel’s presence, a Coast Guard officer was dispatched to the scene, while the Naxos Port Authority sent a patrol boat to carry out an inspection.
During the inspection, officers found that the vessel did not hold a license to conduct commercial activity and had not completed any of the procedures required to operate legally while in the area.
Acting on the orders of the Naxos prosecutor’s office, authorities instructed that the barge be removed from the beach and arrested its captain under Greece’s summary arrest procedure.
