The 40-year-old mother of a 2-year-old girl has been arrested by port authorities after the child was pulled unconscious from the sea in Polychrono, Chalkidiki.
A case file has been opened against the 40-year-old who is charged with violating Articles 306 (endangerment) and 360 (neglect of supervision of a minor) of the Criminal Code.
Timeline of the incident
Authorities were alerted around midday on Thursday, when the lifeguard on duty at the Polychrono beach informed the Nea Moudania Port Authority that he had pulled the 2-year-old girl from the water unconscious.
Thanks to the lifeguard’s quick intervention, during which he performed CPR, the young girl regained consciousness. She was immediately transported by EKAV ambulance, first to the Kassandreia Health Center and then to Thessaloniki’s Hippokrateio General Hospital for further treatment and observation.

The 2nd Port Authority of Nea Moudania, under the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, is carrying out the preliminary investigation into the circumstances that put the toddler at risk.
The 2-year-old girl is currently in stable condition at Hippokrateio Hospital in Thessaloniki. The child had swallowed a significant amount of water, and doctors have expressed concern about a possible infection, though she remains in stable condition.
