Authorities in Crete have arrested the wife of a 54-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a young man, as new details emerge about a case that has stunned the local community.

The woman was detained on suspicion of acting as an accomplice, as she was reportedly in the passenger seat of the vehicle during the attack. A search of the couple’s home led to the seizure of shotgun ammunition, despite the weapon having been confiscated by police about a year earlier.

Alleged Revenge for Son’s Death

Investigators say the suspect carried out the killing believing the victim was responsible for the death of his son in a road accident in 2023. Both the victim and the suspect’s son were 17 at the time of the crash.

The loss of his only child is reported to have deeply affected the suspect in the years that followed, with his anger allegedly never subsiding.

How the Attack Unfolded

The fatal incident took place in a coastal area near Heraklion, where the victim was working. According to authorities, the suspect located him and deliberately rammed his car into the victim’s vehicle.

Sensing the imminent threat, the young man got out and tried to escape on foot. He ran toward a nearby hotel in an attempt to find safety, but the suspect pursued him and opened fire.

The victim was shot four times, with two bullets striking his chest and causing fatal injuries. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene.

Earlier Threats and Violent Incidents

The case has raised serious concerns over prior warnings. According to reports, the victim’s family had contacted authorities at least four times, reporting threatening behavior by the suspect.

In a previous incident around late 2024, the suspect was accused of attacking the victim. The young man had testified that he was assaulted near his home, while members of his family intervened. During that episode, the attacker allegedly fired a weapon toward the victim’s sisters before fleeing.

At the time, the suspect denied involvement, claiming he had not left his home that night.
