A dog attack in the Athens suburb of Vrilissia left a 66-year-old man injured and his pet dog dead on Friday morning, according to Greek police.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on Kyprou Street, when a 48-year-old woman tied her dog outside a bakery before entering the store to make purchases.
A few minutes later, the 66-year-old man passed by the area with his own dog. The woman’s dog broke free and attacked him, causing injuries to his hand, thigh, shoulder blade and knee.
During the attack, the dog also bit the man’s pet, causing fatal injuries.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Gennimatas Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested the 48-year-old owner of the dog on charges related to causing serious bodily harm and the death of an animal.
