Greek authorities carried out two successful rescue operations in the waters south of Crete, reflecting the continuing high levels of migrant crossings in the region.
In the first operation, early morning, 94 migrants were rescued from a boat located approximately 14 nautical miles southwest of Kalo Livadi. The mission involved a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel, a Liberian-flagged tanker, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) deployed by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex). The rescued individuals were safely transferred to the port of Agia Galini.
Later in the afternoon, a second operation saved 103 migrants from two separate boats near Gavdos island. The mission utilized a rescue vessel, a Coast Guard boat, a Frontex aircraft, and three nearby ships to secure the migrants, who were then transported to the port of Chora Sfakion.
