Greek Passport Now Available in Gov.gr Wallet App

Greek citizens can now add their standard passports to the Gov.gr Wallet, allowing them to use the digital document for identification and domestic travel.

Greece has expanded its digital government services by adding the Greek passport to the Gov.gr Wallet, enabling citizens to store and use the document directly from their smartphones.

The feature is available through the latest version of the Gov.gr Wallet app and applies to holders of standard valid Greek passports. According to the government, diplomatic and service passports are not included in the new functionality.

Once added to the app, the digital passport can be used for identity verification and as a travel document within Greece.

The Gov.gr Wallet is available for both Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded through the official government platform.

The Greek passport becomes the 13th document integrated into the digital wallet, joining a growing range of official records and certificates already available through the app. These include national identity cards, driving licences, disability cards, unemployment cards, academic IDs, vehicle information, speedboat operator licences, insurance eligibility records, pet records, driver penalty point information and property records.

According to the announcement, more than 2.5 million digital identity cards and nearly 2 million digital driving licences have already been issued and stored in the application.

The new service was developed by Greece’s digital government authorities in cooperation with the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police. Citizen data is securely retrieved through the government’s interoperability infrastructure, allowing eligible users to access their passport digitally.
