Greek authorities launched a sweeping operation on Friday morning targeting Giannis Panagopoulos, president of the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), as part of an ongoing financial investigation.

Acting on orders from a financial prosecutor, officers from Greece’s Financial Police carried out coordinated searches in Athens and Thessaloniki. Authorities conducted searches at both Panagopoulos’ residence and his office, according to state broadcaster ERT.

Coordinated Raids Across Cities

The operation extended beyond Panagopoulos’ personal premises. Investigators also searched homes and company offices linked to firms with which he is believed to have maintained contractual relationships and ongoing cooperation.

In a notable development, the financial prosecutor overseeing the case was present during the searches — a move that underscores the significance of the investigation and its current stage.
