A landslide early Monday morning has forced the closure of a section of Greece’s Ionian Highway, disrupting traffic between the regions of Arta and Aetolia-Acarnania.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. at the 127th kilometer near Sykoula, where soil and rocks slid onto the roadway, blocking one lane and affecting the second. Authorities have now suspended traffic in both directions for safety.
Police are directing drivers to detour via the old National Road from the Angeli junction, while the highway operator, Nea Odos, has implemented safety measures and temporary signage to guide motorists through the diversion.
Nea Odos stressed that drivers should strictly follow posted instructions and remain cautious while traveling in the affected area. The operator also thanked the public for their understanding as cleanup and safety efforts continue.
