Beachgoers at Loutra Oreas Elenis (Helen of Troy Bath) beach near the coastal city of Corinth were startled after a shark was spotted swimming in shallow waters close to the Gulf of Corinth shoreline, according to local reports.
The unexpected appearance of the marine predator caused concern among bathers, with the shark observed moving just a short distance from the beach. The massive fish was estimated to be around 2.5 meters in length, according to korinthostv.
In recent weeks, similar sightings of sharks have been reported along Greek coastlines. A comparable incident was recorded earlier in coastal Viotia (Boeotia) prefecture, near the Asprospitia site, where another shark was seen close to the beach
Marine experts, as previously reported by local media, have noted that such appearances are not unprecedented in Greek seas, which host several species of sharks that typically avoid human contact. They have stressed that most sightings involve non-aggressive species passing through coastal zones in search of food or following fish populations.
