Missing German Teen Spotted in Athens, Authorities Investigate

Police search continues for 16-year-old Laura, seen shopping and attempting to sell jewelry in Athens, as authorities probe possible helpers and family connections in Germany

Athens authorities are intensifying efforts to locate 16-year-old German teenager Laura, who has been missing since last Thursday. Security cameras captured her moving around the Zografou district and central Athens, and police have narrowed the search to five or six city blocks.

Eyewitnesses report seeing Laura at a local supermarket carrying two bags of purchases and placing a water bottle in her backpack. One group of young witnesses followed her onto Daphne Street, attempting to engage her. Laura reportedly responded only in English when approached.

Other sightings include a jewelry shop, where she attempted to sell pieces, and a café, where she asked to access Wi-Fi for about six minutes. Authorities suspect she is not alone and may be receiving assistance from an unidentified person waiting for her in Athens. Investigators are also exploring whether she is staying in a nearby residence.

Laura’s mother arrived in Athens last night, visibly distressed while searching for her daughter. The father remains in Patras, and authorities are investigating the father-daughter relationship amid past abuse allegations.

The Greek child protection organization “The Smile of the Child” issued a public appeal urging Laura to contact them to confirm her safety. A social worker emphasized that communication is safe and confidential, offering support without judgment.

Local businesses reported interactions with Laura. At one pawnshop, she sold a bracelet and two necklaces for cash. At another jewelry store, she tried to sell gold but left when her offer was declined. Employees noted her appearance and English language use, saying she did not appear to be a minor.

Police are also monitoring her communications and exploring the possibility that she may have traveled to Germany, where her half-brother lives in Cologne. Greek authorities are cooperating with German officials, who have located the 38-year-old brother and his mother for potential questioning.

The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information on Laura’s whereabouts to come forward.
