Μake us preferred on Google A search operation for a missing 20-year-old Italian tourist in Crete ended in tragedy after his body was found Friday morning in the coastal resort of Malia.
The young man had been missing since Wednesday afternoon after disappearing while swimming in the sea.
According to the report, his body was found on shore near the same location where he had entered the water.
The tourist had gone swimming with a friend despite difficult weather conditions, including strong winds and high waves. His friend managed to make it back to shore after a strenuous effort, but the 20-year-old was swept away and disappeared.
The pair were part of a group of seven friends, who immediately alerted authorities after realizing he was missing.
A search-and-rescue operation was launched under the coordination of the Heraklion Central Port Authority. The operation concluded on Friday morning with the recovery of the young man’s body.
