A 35-year-old Egyptian inmate serving a life sentence at Diavata Prison in northern Greece is appearing before an investigating magistrate in connection with a grenade attack plot targeting public officials, including Isidoros Dogiakos, the prosecutor at Greece’s Supreme Court.
According to information cited in the case, the inmate is expected to acknowledge his involvement and claim he acted as the mastermind behind the planned attack.
The court hearing follows the appearance of a 30-year-old Egyptian man who was arrested in the act on the previous day. Authorities said he was found carrying a grenade concealed inside a plastic coffee cup, along with approximately €500, which investigators believe was intended as payment.
During his testimony, the 30-year-old claimed he did not know the intended target of the attack, saying he had only received a message containing the address and street number.
He also told investigators that he had surveyed the location, noticed a police presence, and decided not to place the grenade.
His explanation failed to convince both the prosecutor and the investigating magistrate, who ordered that he be remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
