Greece is heading into a spell of unsettled autumn weather, with cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, and sporadic rain expected over the next few days.
According to meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis, most of the country will remain cloudy on Friday, though rainfall will be limited to western and southern coastal areas. He noted that more widespread rain and lower temperatures are likely next week as November — traditionally a rainy month — begins.
Mild Friday, wetter weekend ahead
While much of Greece will stay dry today, light rain is forecast for the Ionian islands and southern regions, persisting through the weekend without causing disruptions.
Winds will strengthen gradually, with northerly gusts reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort over the Aegean Sea by Sunday, making conditions blustery for island areas.
Temperatures will remain modest in northern Greece, with many regions seeing single-digit lows, while western and southern parts of the country could reach 20°C (68°F). By midday, northern cities may warm to 22°C, and southern islands such as Crete could climb as high as 25–26°C (77–79°F).
Local forecasts for Athens and Thessaloniki
In Athens, skies will stay mostly cloudy with a slight chance of light rain, especially in areas along the Saronic Gulf. Daytime highs in the capital will hover around 22°C.
In Thessaloniki, conditions will be cloudy but dry, with temperatures also peaking near 22°C in the afternoon.
Outlook for next week
On Saturday, light rain is expected across the Ionian islands, the Peloponnese, and Crete, while the rest of the country will alternate between clouds and sunshine. Sunday will bring temporary improvement, but a new wave of rain and stormy weather is forecast to arrive from Tuesday.
As Greece moves deeper into autumn, meteorologists say the coming weeks are likely to bring more frequent rainfall and lower temperatures, signaling the transition into the wetter season ahead.
