The Hellenic Post (ELTA) has announced the suspension of operations at 204 post offices with minimal commercial activity, a move that, according to the company, completes the streamlining of its network.
In a statement, the company explained that activity at its branches now contributes less than 10% of total revenue while consuming over 50% of operating costs, a fact that led it to focus instead on expanding activities such as courier services, e-commerce development, and business support.
It clarified that the 204 branches being closed had very low commercial activity and often overlapped with nearby locations. Many of these branches operated at a loss exceeding €150,000 per year. With the network adjustment, the company’s staff are being reassigned to more productive roles, strengthening the presence of postal workers and improving operational efficiency in regional areas.
In areas without a physical branch, services will continue to be offered through the distribution network, mobile units, and partner outlets. “Our postal workers and partners will cover every area, ensuring that no community is left without access to essential postal services,” the company added.
ELTA emphasized that postal services will continue uninterrupted across all regions of Greece, regardless of whether a physical branch is operating. Services will be provided through 1,400 postal workers, 500 partners, 400 courier agents, and rural distributors, as well as through hundreds of partner locations and the use of modern digital tools.
The company, which has been under the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP) since 2017, reaffirmed its commitment to providing universal postal service, even in the most remote parts of the country.
