A 42-year-old domestic care worker is recovering in hospital after surviving a violent knife attack inside a private home on the Greek island of Rhodes, in a case that has shocked local authorities.
According to information cited by local media, the woman was working as a caregiver when she was suddenly attacked inside the property by a 54-year-old woman known to her. The victim had been caring for two bedridden individuals at the residence.
Sudden assault inside the home
Reports state that the attacker led the victim into the kitchen before launching a sudden knife attack. The 42-year-old was stabbed four times in the chest, arm, leg and side of her body, and was then locked inside the room, left bleeding and unable to escape.
Despite her injuries, the victim managed to reach a telephone and call emergency services herself. That call proved critical, allowing paramedics to locate and transport her quickly to hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery due to the severity of her wounds.
Attempt to destroy evidence
Investigators have also highlighted the suspect’s actions after the attack. She is reported to have cut the wiring of the property’s security cameras before leaving the scene, in what authorities believe was an attempt to prevent the preservation of video evidence.
This detail is now considered a key element in the ongoing case file, as it suggests premeditated actions rather than a spontaneous incident.
Suspect surrenders to police
Several hours after the attack, the suspect presented herself at a local police station in Rhodes, where she was taken into custody. Authorities have launched a formal criminal investigation into the incident.
Officials are also examining the suspect’s mental health background, which reportedly includes previous suicide attempts and past psychiatric hospitalization.
