Snowfall Likely in Attica as Winter Weather Intensifies

Eastern, northern, and northwestern areas of Attica are most likely to experience significant snowfall. Snow is expected from elevations of 200–300 meters, with accumulations mainly above 500 meters.

A wintry landscape is expected to develop in Attica from Sunday afternoon, according to a Greek meteorologist citing the latest forecast data. Snowfall is considered almost certain across the prefecture, beginning late Sunday and lasting through Monday night.

The probability of widespread and locally heavy snowfall stands at around 75%, while there is a 25% chance that conditions will be milder and more localized. Eastern, northern, and northwestern areas of Attica are most likely to experience significant snowfall. Snow is expected from elevations of 200–300 meters, with accumulations mainly above 500 meters.

At the same time, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) warns of a general deterioration in weather conditions nationwide. The forecast includes locally heavy rain and thunderstorms, gale-force winds at sea, snowfall in mountainous and northern semi-mountainous areas, a sharp drop in temperatures—especially in the north—and frost in central and northern mainland regions.

Strong rain and thunderstorms are expected at times in the Dodecanese. Gale-force westerly to southwesterly winds, reaching up to 8 Beaufort, will affect Crete, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese during the morning, while winds in the southern Ionian Sea and the Kythera Strait may briefly reach 9 Beaufort. By evening, strong northerly to northwesterly winds of up to 8 Beaufort are forecast locally in Central Macedonia.

Increased cloud cover with local rainfall is expected in western regions, while the eastern Aegean may see scattered, locally strong thunderstorms, particularly in the Dodecanese. Snowfall will also extend to lower-altitude areas of northeastern Greece from the evening onward.

Temperatures will fall noticeably, with northern regions seeing highs of just 6–8°C. Elsewhere, values will range between 9 and 15°C, reaching 16–18°C in the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese. Frost is expected in central and northern mainland areas.
