Two Dead in Separate Road Accidents in Greece

Fatal crashes in Zaharo and Ioannina claim the lives of a 29-year-old driver and a 39-year-old cyclist, with authorities also launching a manhunt after a hit-and-run incident

A fatal road accident occurred on Sunday morning in the center of Zaharo, a town in western Greece, where a 29-year-old driver lost his life.

According to reports, the car he was driving collided, for reasons still unknown, with the rear of a parked truck. The impact was extremely violent, and the young man died instantly, according to initial information.

The accident took place shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, while the 29-year-old was travelling from Kyparissia, a town in the region, toward Zaharo.

Fire service crews rushed to the scene and worked for several hours to extricate the vehicle, which had become wedged beneath the back of the truck.

Once the operation was completed, the driver was pulled from the wreckage without signs of life.

Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run in Ioannina

A separate fatal traffic incident also occurred in Ioannina, a city in northwestern Greece, where a 39-year-old cyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. when a car hit the 39-year-old cyclist. The collision was so severe that the victim did not survive.

Following the crash, the driver abandoned the scene without offering assistance or notifying authorities. Traffic police in Ioannina have launched a manhunt to locate the suspect.
