A United Nations commission of inquiry has concluded that Israel continued committing genocide in Gaza after a US-brokered ceasefire took effect last October, while warning that conditions for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank have also worsened.

The findings, published Monday, October 26, cover violations against Palestinian children and other developments from the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, through September 2026. Israel rejected the report, describing it as part of a campaign to spread misinformation and damage the country’s standing, Reuters reported.

The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel said Israeli authorities had continued to carry out what it described as “genocidal acts with the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in Gaza.”

The Israeli mission in Geneva disputed the conclusions. Ambassador Daniel Meron said efforts to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and deny its right to exist and defend itself continued through the work of bodies such as the UN commission.

The latest findings follow a report released by the same commission in September 2025, which concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza and that senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had incited such acts. Israel rejected those accusations at the time.

Heavy weapons and expanding control in Gaza

The commission said Israeli forces continued to use heavy munitions, drones, quadcopters, artillery and sniper fire in densely populated parts of Gaza during the ceasefire.

It also raised concerns about the expansion of the so-called Yellow Line, initially presented as a temporary boundary under the ceasefire arrangement. According to the report, the line has moved further into Gaza and increasingly functions as a de facto border, reflecting an expansion of Israeli territorial control.

Palestinian authorities put the death toll from Israel’s military campaign in Gaza at more than 74,000. The offensive began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

West Bank casualties and displacement rise

The report also documented a sharp increase in Palestinian deaths from Israeli airstrikes in the occupied West Bank. The commission recorded six Palestinians killed in airstrikes between 2008 and October 6, 2023, compared with 254 between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2026.

Commission Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said the intentional killing of Palestinian civilians and the destruction of homes in the West Bank were part of a wider strategy aimed at exterminating and displacing Palestinians.

Israeli military operations launched since January 2025 have caused the largest displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank since 1967, the report said. As of August 2026, 34,176 Palestinians remained displaced.

The commission also criticized the Palestinian Authority, accusing it of targeting Palestinians who express dissenting views. It said journalists and human rights defenders had been killed or injured.

The findings were presented to the UN Security Council as the commission raised concerns about developments in both Gaza and the West Bank.
