Unsettled weather is set to persist across Greece throughout the week, with frequent rainfall, strong winds, and increasingly intense conditions expected through Sunday, according to meteorological forecasts.
Wednesday brings unstable conditions to western and northwestern parts of the country, including Epirus, western Central Greece, and the Ionian islands, where showers and localized thunderstorms are forecast. Lighter, scattered rainfall is expected in parts of northern Greece, while several eastern and southern regions are likely to remain dry.
In Athens, cloud cover will alternate with sunny breaks, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 16°C. Thessaloniki will see similar conditions during the day, though local rain is expected later in the evening, with temperatures between 4°C and 14°C.
From Thursday onward, the weather is expected to deteriorate further across most of the country. Rain and thunderstorms will spread from western regions toward central, northern, and eastern areas, at times becoming locally intense. Southern mainland areas and island groups are also expected to be affected, particularly late in the week.
Strong winds will accompany the system, especially over the Aegean Sea, where gusts are forecast to reach near-gale force. Wind direction will gradually shift to southerly and southwesterly flows, increasing both wind strength and atmospheric instability. The Ionian Sea will also see strengthening winds, at times reaching similar intensities.
Snowfall is forecast in mountainous areas of western and northern mainland Greece, particularly from Thursday night onward, as colder air affects higher elevations.
Temperatures will show a slight rise midweek, especially in western and northern regions, before gradually dropping again over the weekend. Daytime highs are expected to range between 12°C and 16°C across much of the mainland, while northern inland areas will remain cooler. Island regions will see milder conditions, with highs reaching 18°C to 19°C.
By Friday, rain and thunderstorms will persist in western and northeastern regions, while southern island areas are expected to see worsening conditions later in the day. Weather patterns over the weekend point to continued rainfall across western, central, and southern Greece, with locally strong storms and ongoing snowfall in mountainous terrain.
Meteorologists also warn that atmospheric conditions later in the week may favor the transport of dust over southern parts of the country, adding to reduced visibility and air quality concerns.
Authorities advise residents and travelers to remain alert as the prolonged period of unstable weather continues to affect much of the country.
