Video footage and witness accounts have emerged following a serious traffic accident in Salamina, near Athens, in which a Greek police patrol car struck a 12-year-old girl, leaving her with a severe leg injury.

According to reports, the incident occurred near a school where the girl had been playing with other children in the yard before she allegedly ran onto the road.

One witness said she saw the police vehicle outside her home and called her husband, who told her that a patrol car had hit a child.

“He heard the bang and the children crying,” the witness said.

Another parent explained that the girl had been playing volleyball with her daughter in the schoolyard when several other children entered the area and frightened them.

“The girls ran toward the exit. From what I know, the child did not use the pedestrian crossing and suddenly ran into the street,” the witness said, adding that the girl’s condition is stable despite the leg injury.

The 12-year-old was initially taken to the local health center before doctors decided she required surgery. She was later transferred to a private hospital, where metal plates were inserted into her leg.

Officer Arrested as Investigation Begins

Greek police confirmed that an internal administrative investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The police officer driving the patrol car was arrested, while prosecutors filed a case against him for negligent bodily harm.

Doctors treating the girl said her condition is not considered life-threatening.
