Amyntas 60-68 Olympiacos: Key Away Win, 2-0 Start For The Reds

Olympiacos beat Amyntas 68-60 in Ymittos, holding off a third-quarter comeback to stay unbeaten after two rounds of the Allwyn GBL 1

Olympiacos continued their winning run in the Allwyn GBL 1, beating Amyntas 68-60 at the Ymittos indoor arena in the second round. Ahmed Nzogia’s “Reds” built a significant lead in the first half, but had to manage the home team’s comeback in the third quarter to hold on to their lead until the end.

Olympiacos went into the locker room up 43-29, in control of the game. Amyntas, however, did not give up and cut the gap to two points, turning the final stretch of the game into a tougher task for the visitors. The Piraeus team found the answers it needed in the fourth quarter and left Ymittos with its second win in as many games.

How The Game Unfolded

Amyntas closed the first quarter with a narrow 21-19 lead, despite Olympiacos’ efforts to impose its pace. The visitors raised their level in the second quarter, improved their offense and began to pull away on the scoreboard.

A three-pointer by Mali put Olympiacos up 33-24, and shortly after, Fankam stretched the lead to ten points. The “Reds” kept up the same pace and ended the first half at 43-29, holding a significant lead.

The picture changed in the third quarter. Olympiacos initially stayed in control, with Ewondo making it 51-38 from the free-throw line, but Amyntas responded strongly. The home team took advantage of their offensive surge, closed much of the gap and pulled within 56-54, putting pressure on the Piraeus team once again.

In the final quarter, Olympiacos needed to regain its composure to avoid any surprises. Kollatou’s basket, which made it 67-56 about three and a half minutes before the end, gave the visitors important breathing room. Amyntas could not complete the comeback, and the “Reds” kept their lead until the final 68-60.

With this result, Olympiacos are 2-0 at the start of the Allwyn GBL 1 and now turn their attention to European competition. On Wednesday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m., they will host Baxi Ferrol at the Moschato Municipal Indoor Arena for the opening game of the EuroCup Women group stage.
