Germany celebrated its first win in League A of the Nations League, defeating Serbia 2-0 to climb to four points in the group.

Goals from Bischof and Wirtz decided the match, as the “Panzer” dictated the tempo for most of the evening and made the most of their chances. The Germans seized the initiative early, dominating possession and pinning Serbia in its own half. The pressure finally paid off shortly before halftime. In the 39th minute, Wirtz struck the post, but the play was far from over. Bischof pounced on the rebound and finished from close range to make it 1-0.

Little changed after the break. Germany remained firmly in control and found a second goal midway through the second half. In the 69th minute, Mittelstädt set up the play and picked out Wirtz, who shook off his marker and calmly slotted home to double the lead.

From there, the “Panzer” managed their advantage comfortably without needing to raise the tempo again. Serbia never found a way back into the contest, and Germany cruised to its first victory of the competition.

The result moves Germany within two points of group leader Greece, which had earlier drawn 2-2 with the Netherlands at Toumba. The Oranje now sit one point ahead of Germany, while Serbia remains without a point.

In the evening’s other matches, Portugal made it three wins from three with a 4-2 victory over Denmark, despite playing without Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese now hold a perfect record in their group, while a fierce battle is shaping up behind them for second place.

Denmark and Wales both sit on three points after the Welsh beat Norway 2-1, leaving the Norwegians level on three points as well.
