Greece held a one-goal advantage (7-6) with one second remaining in regular time, but failed to defend their goal before the final whistle, which led to the game going into a penalty shootout.

The two teams were level (7-7) at the end of regulation time, four quarters of 8 minutes each. Greece missed two penalties while Spain scored all its shots.

The Greek national team will now play against the loser of the Serbia-Hungary game in the second semi-final game for the 3rd and 4th spots, hoping to secure a bronze medal.
