Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari secured a spot in the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells Final after beating US Open champion Coco Gauff in a lengthy match earlier today.

Sakkari, who is currently No. 9 in the WTA rankings, held off the world No. 3 for a total of five and a half hours until she secured a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 victory.

The fighting spirit of both players as well as the rainy backdrop of the event made for a dramatic and impressive match.

Sakkari’s victory takes her to the Indian Wells finals where she will face world’s No. 1 Iga Swiatek in what will be a rematch of the 2022 final, where the latter won in straight sets.

The Greek star will be competing for her first title of the year, her third career title and her second 1000 WTA title after last year’s win in Guadalajara.

Her sport in the final has already earned her 539,583 euros, an amount which will double if she beats Swiatek. Earning the title will also bump her up to No.6 in the rankings.
