The future of Greek football is looking extremely bright, as three youngsters, two hailing from the academy of Greek champions Olympiacos FC and one playing for Belgian Genk, are in the running for Italian outlet Tuttosport’s prestigious “Golden Boy 2025” award.
Charalambos Kostoulas, who recently moved to Premier League club Brighton for a record-breaking transfer fee; Christos Mouzakitis, who is on the radar of many top European clubs; and the teen prodigy, Konstantinos Karetsas, who plays in Belgium and is drawing attention from European clubs, are among the top 100 European footballers competing for the top prize.
Established in 2003, the Golden Boy Award has become one of the most celebrated in football, given each year to the most impressive young player in Europe. There have been 22 winners of the award, with one of its criteria being that no player can win the award multiple times.
Voting is already underway, and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, the current holder, is not eligible to reclaim the prize.
