Olympiacos FC wonderkid Charalampos Kostoulas appears to be on his way to top Premier League club Brighton Wanderers for a record transfer fee for a Greek player.
Kostoulas, 18, is reportedly on his way to the English club’s headquarters on Wednesday for a medical check-up to seal a deal estimated at 40 million euros.
Two well-respected and reliable sports journalists, Italian Fabrizio Romano and English Ben Jacobs, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Greek forward was expected to land in England for a medical today.
“Charalampos Kostoulas is set for a Brighton medical on Wednesday. 18-year-old will join from Olympiacos for around £34m,” Jacobs posted.
Romano wrote, “After Diego Coppola deal done, Brighton also sign Charalampos Kostoulas – here we go! Deal done with Olympiacos for £34m fee as player will undergo medical this week, as @JacobsBen reports.”
The teenager played a pivotal role in helping Olympiacos FC secure their first-ever European trophy when the club’s youth side knocked out European giants on their way to winning the 2023/24 UEFA Youth League competition in the final against Milan FC.
Two top-tier Premier League clubs, Manchester United and Arsenal, had reportedly shown interest in acquiring the talented player, but reports suggest Brighton FC exhibited the clearest intent to get the deal done.
His possible record-move to the top league in the world highlights the dedicated efforts at the Greek club at a grassroots level. Working consistently and methodically with local talents who show potential in their youth team, the Greek champions are bringing them up through the ranks to either fill the men’s roster or act as a stepping stone for them to realize their dreams by playing abroad at a top level.
Another rising star from the Reds’ “talent factory” that caught the eye of top European clubs is midfielder Christos Mouzakitis, who has reportedly attracted the attention of several leading European clubs, such as Manchester United, Arsenal, AC Milan, and Juventus.
