Greek champion pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis surpassed the six-meter mark on Thursday at the 2026 World Indoor Tour in Liévin, northern France, improving the best result of the year, which he himself held.

His first-place performance came a month before the World Indoor Championships.

In his first competition of the year, he had jumped 5.93 m in Lodz on Jan. 25. After starting with 5.70 m, he then exceeded 5.80, 5.90 and 6.00 meters in a final attempt on Thursday.

With the result, Karalis came ahead of Norwegian Sondre Guttormsen (5.90 m), who could not exceed 6.00 m in his last attempt.

Accompanied by traditional Greek music, Karalis failed in his attempts to exceed 6.07 meters.

Although still a step below world record holder Armand Duplantis, who surpassed 6.30m at the Tokyo World Championships last September, Karalis in August 2025 raised the Greek national record to 6.08m during the national championships.
