A large-scale emergency exercise codenamed "Rail SOS" or "Raga SOS," organized by the Urban Rail Transport (STASY) and carried out in the early hours along Metro Line 1, at Omonia Square.
Metro operator STASY said that Syntagma station remained closed for Line 2 services and no interchange with Line 3 was available, although Line 3 services at the station continued to operate as usual.
Due to extended track maintenance on Line 2, three stations will close 2.5 hours early, with a temporary bus route serving affected commuters until normal service resumes
The public transport operator “Athens Urban Rail Transport” (STASY) said the train would bypass the Syntagma station after 6 pm.
The STASY train employee union claims the malfunction in Athens jeopardized public safety and is calling for immediate action.
