The Spanish government has sent a formal request to Italy demanding the full restoration of the Schengen Agreement by Sunday, August 9.
The statement stresses that otherwise, Spain will be forced to adopt corresponding measures to protect the interests and dignity of its citizens.
Madrid repeated that Italy is the country with the highest number of irregular border crossings in recent years, with figures even double those recorded in Spain.
As a reminder, following the Ceuta crisis, Giorgia Meloni’s government decided to temporarily suspend the Schengen Agreement with Spain until the end of August. However, according to the Italian press, the measure may be lifted earlier, likely before the mid-August holiday.
