U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a temporary halt to planned military strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, signaling a potential diplomatic opening amid escalating tensions.
Trump said on Monday that the United States had held “good and productive conversations” with Tehran and would postpone any strikes on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days.
“I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions,” Trump wrote in a social media post on Truth Social.
The decision follows a warning from Iran that it would retaliate if its power network were targeted. Iranian officials had threatened to strike Israel’s power plants and facilities supplying electricity to U.S. bases across the Gulf region in response to any such attack.
Talks between Washington and Tehran are expected to continue throughout the week, with the delay in military action tied to their outcome.
