The United States has not altered its objectives in the ongoing war against Iran, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Thursday, emphasizing continuity in strategy since the conflict began on February 28.

“Our objectives… remain exactly what they were on day one,” Hegseth told reporters during a Pentagon briefing, adding that the mission remains “unchanged, on target and on plan.” He also criticized media coverage during his remarks.

Thousands of Targets Hit

According to the Pentagon, U.S. forces have carried out strikes on 7,000 targets inside Iran so far. The campaign has also targeted Iran’s naval capabilities, hitting more than 40 mine-laying vessels and 11 submarines.

The stated objectives include destroying Iran’s missile launchers, dismantling its defense industrial base, weakening its navy, and preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
