Greece continues to strengthen its profile as a premier international filming destination, attracting a growing number of major productions drawn to its distinctive landscapes. This time, the spotlight falls on Hydra—not merely as a postcard-perfect island, but as a living cinematic set for a high-profile film starring one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names.
The news was first revealed by the TV show Happy Day on Alpha, reporting that Brad Pitt is set to travel to Greece for the filming of The Riders. The announcement was later confirmed by Hydra’s mayor, George Koukoudakis, who stated that the actor is expected on the island from late February through mid-March as part of a large-scale international production involving hundreds of crew members.
According to the mayor, Hydra’s selection was no coincidence. The island holds a special place in film history, having hosted in 1957 Boy on a Dolphin, the first Hollywood production ever shot in Greece, starring Sophia Loren. Its distinctive architecture, unspoiled natural setting, timeless aesthetic, and ban on motor vehicles continue to make Hydra an ideal natural film set capable of supporting demanding cinematic narratives.

What Brad Pitt’s Arrival Means for the Island
Beyond international visibility, the production is set to deliver a clear boost to Hydra’s economy and tourism, with the season starting as early as February and now stretching into November.
The influx of hundreds of crew members brings added logistical demands, prompting coordination between local authorities and the production team. As Mayor Koukoudakis emphasized, the initiative is seen not only as a tourism opportunity but as a cultural moment, warmly supported by the local community.
