Α genuine “blue northern” cold front is expected to affect much of Greece over the weekend and heading into Monday, with much-needed snow in the highlands and rain elsewhere forecast.

More rain, thunderstorms and snowfall are expected mid-week, with a low front now arriving from the central Mediterranean.

The cold snap interrupted almost balmy conditions this past week, where temperatures reached up to 18C in some southern areas.

The more intense precipitation is forecast for the eastern seaboard, the islands of the Aegean and Crete.

Snowfall is expected in the mountains of mainland Greece and in the semi-mountainous areas of central and northern Greece. Winds will gust from east to northeast at 4 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, reaching up to 8 in the southern Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea.
