Thirty-one artistic research projects will be presented to the public at Dance Residencies Open Days 2026, taking place September 19–21 at Technopolis City of Athens.
The three-day event marks the concluding phase of the 2026 Dance Artistic Residency Program, organized for the second consecutive year by the Association of Workers in the Dance Field and Technopolis City of Athens. From July 22 to August 20, participating dance groups and independent artists were given time and space to research, experiment, develop ideas and exchange practices at the Athens cultural venue.
Rather than presenting only finished performances, the Open Days bring audiences into the creative process itself. Work-in-progress pieces, excerpts, research presentations, video, discussions and interactive approaches will offer a look at projects while they are still evolving.
The 31 projects approach dance from a wide range of starting points, with recurring themes including the body and memory, personal and collective experience, relationships and communication, everyday life and repetition, and the emergence of movement and choreography.
The research also extends into social and political questions, history and place, accessibility, disability, identity and personal freedom. Across the projects, the body is explored variously as an archive, a communication tool and a site of resistance and transformation.
Movement can emerge from a memory, dream, sound, object, gesture or everyday action, while some of the works remain deliberately open-ended as their creators continue to search for their final form.
The program unfolds over three evenings, with presentations by individual artists and dance groups including á art company, Corpus Lingua, Dance Athens Company, Flamboyance company, Common Language, HORIZeON, Sidereal Dance Company and others. The works range from solos and group projects to research-based and interdisciplinary approaches, reflecting the diversity of the participating artists and their investigations.
For a second year, Technopolis is supporting contemporary dance by providing artists with the time, space and freedom to experiment and develop their ideas. The residency program focuses not simply on producing a finished work, but on supporting the artistic process itself.
Dance Residencies Open Days 2026 invites audiences to witness precisely that stage of creation: the moment when an idea is tested, movement takes shape and choreography is still in progress.
