David Lynch Brings ‘Truths Be Told’ to B&E Jazz in the Museum

The saxophonist and composer will present his latest album with the Heritage Band on October 23, opening the seventh season of the Goulandris Foundation’s Jazz at the Museum concert series, themed around the creative possibilities of numbers

Saxophonist and composer David Lynch will open the seventh season of Jazz at the Museum, the concert series hosted by the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens, with a performance of Truths Be Told on Friday, October 23. Joined by the Heritage Band, Lynch will present music from his latest solo album, drawing on decades of personal experience, history, and heritage.

Released in November 2025, Truths Be Told reflects Lynch’s personal journey through melodies rooted in his life and background. The performance explores the idea that some truths do not need to be spoken to be understood, just as music can communicate feelings and ideas before words give them a name.

Through the album and its live interpretation, Lynch and the Heritage Band approach numbers and musical structures not as restrictions on creativity, but as foundations for freedom and improvisation. Rules, patterns, repetition, and variation can establish an underlying order while leaving room for the unexpected.

The concept connects directly with this season’s Numbers theme, which examines numbers not merely as mathematical symbols but also as aesthetic forms and organizing principles that shape rhythm, repetition, and artistic expression.

‘Numbers’

This year’s nine-concert cycle takes Numbers as its central theme, exploring how numerical relationships shape musical composition and improvisation, as well as visual forms. Across the series, numbers serve as a shared language through which artists and musicians can reveal unexpected connections between sound, rhythm, shape, and structure.

Each concert offers a distinct interpretation of the theme, bringing jazz into conversation with works from the foundation’s art collection and creating new relationships between music and visual art.

Lynch’s Truths Be Told will explore how structure can provide a framework for artistic freedom—and how music can express personal truths that words cannot always capture.
