Eco-conscious practices in culture, education, and public engagement are at the heart of this year’s “Green Culture Routes”, a Greek Culture Ministry initiative running across the country from May 22 to 25.

Now in its 13th year, the program invites the public to participate in a wide range of free events, including presentations, educational activities, thematic tours, walks, hikes, cycling routes, and artistic performances —all designed to promote sustainable cultural experiences.

Launched in 2012, the initiative has grown to include 46 regional antiquities and cultural heritage services in collaboration with municipalities, schools, universities, museums, environmental education centers, cultural associations, and citizen cooperatives, with significant support from volunteers.

In Athens, participants can enjoy guided tours, theatrical games, treasure hunts, open-air conservation workshops, arts and crafts activities, and visits to landmark sites such as the Roman Agora, the archaeological site of Aristotle’s Lyceum, the Monastery of Agioi Asomatoi Petraki, the archaeological site of Agia Triada – Vourkari Bay, the archaeological site of Eleusis, and the Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Haidari, among others.

Events will also be held at sites in various regions throughout the country, showcasing Greece’s rich heritage and raising awareness about the importance of cultural preservation through sustainable practices.
