The next 40 or so days are deemed as crucial for hydrocarbon exploration in Greek waters, as a report in ot.gr on Monday has the relevant energy minister signing off on an international tender for concessions rights in a large maritime block identified as “south of the Peloponnese”.
The specific maritime block extends south, arc-like, off the southern-most province of the Peloponnese, in the east-central Mediterranean.
US multinational Chevron has previously expressed interest in acquiring exploration and exploitation rights for the specific region, while Greece-based and ATHEX-listed Helleniq Energy has expressed interest in a much smaller block, A2, located northeast of the former, and west off the southwest Peloponnese.
The tender, according to ot.gr reports, will be made official upon publication in the Greek government gazette and the Official Journal of the European Union.
A 90-day deadline is envisioned for the submission of interest by prospective investors from the day the tender is published.
