Elon Musk Reposts Rubio’s Pnyx Address; Acropolis in Background

The tech billionaire shared a video of the US Secretary of State’s speech in Athens, where Rubio invoked ancient Greece and called for a renewal of the Western spirit

Elon Musk reposted a video of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s address from the Pnyx in Athens on Wednesday, sharing the speech with his followers on X without adding a comment.

Rubio delivered the address from the historic Pnyx Hill, with the Acropolis and Parthenon providing the backdrop, and called for what he described as a “great renewal of the Western spirit.”

He traced the foundations of Western civilization from ancient Greece and Rome through Christendom to the founding of the United States, highlighting qualities he associated with ancient Greece, including curiosity, courage, ambition and a spirit of exploration.

Rubio argued that much of the West had lost sight of those qualities and urged the United States and its European allies to defend their shared heritage and confront a new era of great-power competition together.

The address came during Rubio’s first visit to Greece as secretary of state and the sixth US-Greece Strategic Dialogue. Earlier Wednesday, he described Greece as an “indispensable NATO partner” and emphasized the countries’ shared historical and cultural ties.

Musk’s repost adds a notable social-media dimension to Rubio’s Athens visit, particularly given their previous public disagreement over State Department staffing.
