Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis met with the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOARCH), Elpidophoros, in New York City on Saturday, October 18.

The courtesy visit took place at the GOARCH headquarters in New York as part of the Greek minister’s tour in the U.S., where he met with several high-profile officials during the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) summit.

The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere and broached several issues related to the Greek diaspora and forging stronger ties between the US and Greece.

“We discussed in an especially warm atmosphere the strengthening of the bonds between Greece and the Greek Diaspora in the U.S.—from the economy and education to culture and social cohesion,” Mr. Pierrakakis said in a post on the social network X, emphasizing that “special reference was made to the role of the Church as a pillar of unity for Hellenism.”

“I expressed the government’s willingness to actively support initiatives that strengthen the connection of the Diaspora with the homeland,” he added.
