At the Presidential Government Headquarters, the Maximos Mansion, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hosted a dinner in honour of the 250th anniversary of American independence, addressing the occasion in a post that framed the milestone as a celebration of the enduring strength of liberal democratic ideals. The event was hosted in honor of the U.S. Ambassador and formed part of the commemorations marking the milestone anniversary.

He noted that the celebration also reflected a deeper historical trajectory shared by Greece and the United States, one that extends beyond formal diplomatic relations and spans more than two centuries of common values and experiences.

Recalling his address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress in May 2022, he emphasized that the principles associated with the founding figures of the American republic found echoes in the ideas of key figures of the Greek Enlightenment and the struggle for independence in 1821.

He drew a parallel between the ideals of early American statesmen and the visions of Greek intellectuals and revolutionaries, suggesting that both traditions converged around the concepts of democracy and national self-determination. He also referenced the early wave of Philhellenism in the United States, noting that American society had historically expressed sympathy and admiration for the Greek struggle for independence.

Turning to the present, Mitsotakis underlined that the historical dialogue between the two democracies continues to this day, with bilateral relations currently at their strongest level ever. He described Greece and the United States as partners bound by a reinforced strategic relationship and a shared commitment to freedom, democracy, and regional and international stability, further supported through cooperation in multilateral frameworks.

The prime minister also pointed to the Greek diaspora in the United States as a vital bridge between the two peoples, reinforcing the uniqueness of their connection.

Concluding his remarks, he argued that relationships which endure over time are those grounded in shared values rather than circumstantial interests, adding that the Greece–U.S. partnership has increasingly come to be seen as transcending electoral cycles and party lines, sustained by a deep and lasting strategic alignment.
