Ruling New Democracy (ND) is at 31% in the latest MARC poll, with the newly formed EL.A.S. party of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at 16% and main opposition PASOK at 11.5%, according to a survey conducted for Athens broadcaster ANT1 and presented on Thursday evening.
The poll, conducted after the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) and the political leaders’ announcements there last week, records changes in both estimated election results and stated voting intention.
In the vote estimate, which projects a nine-party Parliament, ND stands at 31%, followed by leftist EL.A.S. at 16% and socialist/social democrat PASOK at 11.5%. Greek Solution is at 7.2%, the Communist Party (KKE) at 6.8%, Course of Freedom at 5.5% and Hope for Democracy, the party associated with Maria Karystianou, at 5.5%. Voice of Reason is at 3.5% and MeRA25 at 3.2%.
SYRIZA is below the parliamentary threshold at 1.6%, followed by Spartans at 1.4%, Niki at 1.3% and Democrats at 1%. The “other party” category accounts for 4.5%.
In stated voting intention, ND is at 27.5%, compared with 14% for EL.A.S. and 10.1% for PASOK. Greek Solution stands at 6.5%, KKE at 6%, Course of Freedom at 4.9% and Hope for Democracy at 4.6%. Voice of Reason and MeRA25 are both at 2.9%, while SYRIZA is at 1.3%. Undecided voters account for 11%.
The poll also examines the profile of undecided voters. Some 34.6% previously supported ND, 18.8% SYRIZA, 8.3% Spartans, 6.6% PASOK, 6.2% Niki and 3.2% Greek Solution, while 8.6% said they previously supported another party.
Asked what type of government they would prefer, 27.8% chose a single-party ND government, while 27.1% preferred a coalition involving PASOK, EL.A.S. and smaller left-wing parties. A further 9.6% favored a coalition between ND and PASOK, while 8% preferred cooperation between ND and smaller right-wing parties.
The survey also measured views of the political leaders’ TIF announcements. A combined 38.4% assessed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ announcements positively or rather positively, while 55% viewed them negatively or rather negatively. The corresponding figures were 29.7% positive and 55.4% negative for PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, and 24.1% positive and 62.7% negative for Tsipras.
