Greece and Panama are exploring ways to expand business and investment ties, with shipping, transportation and logistics among the sectors identified for closer cooperation.

The prospects were discussed at a meeting between Ioannis Bratakos, president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), and Julie Lymberopulos K, Panama’s ambassador and consul general to Greece.

According to an ACCI announcement, the discussions also covered potential partnerships in technology, financial services and business services.

Joint business forum under consideration

One proposal under consideration is a joint business forum in either Greece or Panama, bringing together representatives of the two countries’ chambers of commerce and businesses.

The event would aim to showcase investment opportunities, establish direct contacts between companies and help businesses gain access to new markets.

Lymberopulos K. outlined Panama’s advantages as an international trade and transit hub, highlighting its strategic location, the Panama Canal and the access it offers to markets across Latin America and the Caribbean.

She also briefed Bratakos on the upcoming CAF International Forum 2027, scheduled to take place in Panama City on January 27–28, 2027. The event is expected to bring together government representatives, business organizations and investors from around the world.

ACCI highlights existing maritime and trade links

Bratakos said the two countries already share strong maritime and commercial ties that could provide a foundation for broader business cooperation.

“Building on these relationships and creating new channels of communication between businesses in the two countries could generate significant opportunities in trade, investment and services,” he said.

He added that the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry was ready to contribute actively to developing concrete initiatives that would strengthen the international reach of Greek businesses and facilitate their access to Latin American markets.

Both sides expressed their intention to maintain open lines of communication and further explore opportunities for cooperation between the Greek and Panamanian business communities.
