Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a telephone conversation with European Council president Antonio Costa on Monday evening, with discussions, as expected, focusing on developments in the wider region in the wake of the US and Israeli strikes against Iran and the latter’s retaliation across the Middle East.
According to reports, Mitsotakis briefed Costa on the military support Greece is providing to the Republic of Cyprus.
Christodoulides call with president of Lebanon
In a related development, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides spoke by phone with the President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun on Monday, following a drone attack against the British sovereign base in Akrotiri.
The same sources stated that so far there is no information indicating a threat against Cypriot infrastructure, while the island republic’s possesses systems capable of intercepting both missiles and drones. Christodoulides also reportedly referred to cooperation and coordination with the British bases, as well as with other partners and allies, for the exchange of information regarding the prevailing situation.
Meanwhile, two Hellenic Navy frigates are expected to arrive in Cyprus tomorrow, while Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will arrive on the island republic on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to meet with Christodoulides and his counterpart, Vasilis Palmas.
