Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held talks with António Costa on Wednesday, with discussions centered on developments in the Middle East and the need for diplomatic solutions to ongoing tensions.
The meeting took place at the prime minister’s office in Athens, where Costa briefed Mitsotakis on his recent tour of key Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Focus on Iran and regional stability
According to officials, the two leaders reviewed the latest developments in the wider Middle East, with particular emphasis on the situation in Iran and prospects for de-escalation.
Both sides underlined the importance of pursuing diplomatic pathways to ensure stability in the region, stressing that negotiations remain critical in preventing further escalation.
Maritime security concerns
A key issue raised during the meeting was the need to safeguard freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. Ensuring uninterrupted maritime traffic was highlighted as a priority for regional and international stability.
Discussions also touched on ongoing efforts related to Lebanon, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of advancing negotiations and supporting broader stability initiatives in the country.
