Μake us preferred on Google SWAN | Acrobatic Dance Drama, a Chinese production blending acrobatics, dance and theater, will tour Thessaloniki and Athens in September, offering audiences a stage spectacle built around human determination, movement and the pursuit of a dream.
The production premiered at Megaron Concert Hall in Thessaloniki on September 3 and will be staying in the city until September 6, before moving to Christmas Theater in Athens from September 10-14. The performance is suitable for all ages and runs for 120 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
At the center of SWAN is a young acrobat who dreams of reaching great heights. Inspired by the artistic journey behind the celebrated “Shoulder Ballet,” the production follows her through demanding training, collaboration, love, disappointment, a fall and a new beginning.
The “Shoulder Ballet” has been described as combining “the elegance of ballet and the suspense of acrobatics.” SWAN builds on that idea to create a theatrical experience in which physical skill carries an emotional narrative.
The production uses the image of the swan as a symbol of rebirth, hope and harmony between people and nature. Its performers tell the story largely through movement, balance and physical expression, turning acrobatics into a language for persistence, beauty and transformation.
Western classical music provides another central element. The production draws inspiration from works including Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Swan and the atmosphere of Swan Lake, creating a dreamlike setting in which music, dance and acrobatics converge.
Rather than presenting acrobatics solely as a display of technical ability, SWAN places those skills within a broader theatrical narrative. Its combination of physical precision, symbolism and emotion is designed to appeal both to audiences drawn to large-scale stage productions and families looking for a shared cultural experience.
SWAN in Thessaloniki and Athens
The production will appear in Thessaloniki from Sept. 3-6 at Megaron Concert Hall and in Athens from Sept. 10-14 at Christmas Theater.
