The government on Friday again brandished its interest in exploiting the “digital revolution” with an event at the Maximos Mansion prime ministerial office focusing on the topic of “The Future of Artificial Intelligence”, hosted by PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and including the participation of Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, among others.

Later in the evening, Mitsotakis and Nobel laureate Hassabis took the stage at the Herodes Atticus Odeon at the foot of the Acropolis for the Athens Innovation Summit, where AI’s potential in the sectors of health, education and civil defense in Greece was the focus.

“As you know, we have a very detailed strategy regarding the role and position that Greece can play in the global environment of artificial intelligence. There are certain fields, such as education and healthcare, where I believe we can make tremendous progress and be at the forefront of innovation,” Mitsotakis said.

On his part, Hassabis responded by saying that he believes Greece has a very important role to play in terms of innovation and focusing on what AI can do to help society and government.

In a separate development, Mitsotakis on Friday also toured the main Syntagma metro station in downtown Athens ahead of the launch of 24-hour service on metro lines 2 and 3, the tram lines and selected urban bus routes every Saturday.

According to his office, Mitsotakis spoke with metro employees and thanked the staff members for supporting the extension of operating hours on Saturdays.
